about

Before going into this album, we knew we had a very small amount of time to record it before our drummer Jesse moved away for college. Additionally, we wanted the album to have a similar energy to our live shows in which we tended to give our songs a punkier edge due to the limitations of only using guitar, bass, drums and vocals. Given this tight window of time and our sonic aspirations, we figured the best way to record an album would be to knock out a bunch of live recordings as fast as possible, leaving in the mistakes and new discoveries along the way. We conducted a marathon recording session that took place at local San Jose venue Art Boutiki with sound engineers Jason Hallyburton and Dustin Vado. The results of this first session were 11 instrumentals of songs we had been playing during live shows or were introduced to the band by Will just a week prior to this recording session. 9 of these recordings ended up on the album. A few weeks later, we returned to Art Boutiki to record vocals and additional guitar. Over the next few months, Jason worked on mixes for the album as we would send the songs back and forth. At one point during this period, Jesse returned home from college for a couple weeks. During this time we played a couple shows and recorded the song "DAYS ON END (GIVE IT A CHANCE)" at Foothill College with additional sound engineering by Layla Moheimani.

Over the course of the next few months, we experimented with different tracklistings, eventually cutting two songs. After this we had finally settled on the album's tracklist and cover art. Now presented to you is "ELECTRIC MUSHROOM", a collage of sonic palettes revolving around themes of nature, dissatisfaction, anarchy and death through cryptic and sometimes contradictory lyrics. The album culminates with the 11-minute closer, "LADY OF THE EARTH (I-IV)" which follows a man who finds himself face to face with mother nature (an anthropomorphic mushroom) as he cries for change. This is a full circle event within the context of the album and the context of the band as we have been playing this song live since our first set at Art Boutiki over a year ago.

We hope you love it as much as we loved making it. It's been a long time coming! Globo Nation
